Once part of a small Mennonite muck farm in Hartville, the 13-acre David Fichtner Center honors the memory of David Fichtner. A chemical engineer at Goodyear, Fichtner loved nature and actively engaged children in the outdoors through the Boy Scouts of America. Stark Parks continues this Fichtner’s mission by providing outdoor education and a natural retreat to connect people with the outdoors.
Butterfly watchers will enjoy a gently rolling trail that is home to 19 species of butterflies including monarchs, viceroys, tiger swallowtails, and red admirals. Songbirds, waterfowl, rabbits, fox, and white-tailed deer can be seen near the wetlands and adjoining woodlands.
