About this Location

The Mogadore Boathouse and Marina, on Cleveland Canton Road (OH-43), was reopened to the public in 2011. Operational hours are approximately sunrise to sunset from April through Labor Day weather depending. Rentals are available for johnboats, canoes, kayaks, paddle boats and electric motors. The Marina also offers live bait, tackle, convenience items, and concessions. There are beautiful picnic and bird watching areas, as well as shoreline fishing around the boathouse.

Mogadore Reservoir is located in southwestern Portage County, 3 miles east of Akron and 6 miles south of Kent on OH-43, 1 mile south of US-224.

Mogadore Reservoir is owned and operated by the city of Akron. This reservoir was constructed in 1939, within the valley of the Little Cuyahoga River. The primary purpose of constructing this reservoir was to provide untreated water to the industries that were located downstream from the reservoir, as well as to afford flood protection to the Little Cuyahoga River Valley. The reservoir has a water surface of 1,104 acres. The maximum depth of Mogadore Reservoir is 24 feet. Mogadore Reservoir is not part of the domestic water supply for the city of Akron. Boats are allowed on Mogadore Reservoir, but they must be propelled by electric motors only. The fish populations in Mogadore Reservoir are managed by the Ohio Division of Wildlife.

Completed in 1939, Mogadore Reservoir is located near Mogadore by OH-43 in Portage County and is formed by the damming of the Little Cuyahoga River.

Mogadore Reservoir was originally created to supply additional water to Akron industries downstream but now serves mostly recreational and flood protection purposes.

The City of Akron and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources have a long-term agreement for hunting and fishing at Mogadore reservoir.

Some areas of Mogadore Reservoir have been classified as “No Trespassing” areas. These areas are marked on maps on the city website and include the sensitive areas around the dams. Boating is welcome on Mogadore Reservoir but is limited to electric motors only.
