How to get a “life list” of all the bird species
Have you ever wanted to get a “life list” of the birds you have seen at a personal location in your eBird account? Say your backyard? There is a way. Here’s how.
Go to the “My eBird” tab on the eBird website.
Click on the number of species in Your Life List.
This opens a table of all the birds in your life list with the date, place, and checklist where you first reported the bird.
Scroll down the list and find a bird you know you have seen at the location for which you want a life list. Click on “View All” in the far right column for that bird.
This opens a table of all your life sightings of that bird species.
Now here’s the trick. In the “Location” column find the location for which you want a life list. Click on that location.
Amazing! You have a table listing of all the species you have reported at that location with the checklist of the first instance of your reporting the bird.
You can sort this listing by clicking on the column headers. I often sort by date so I can see the list in chronological order.
There is a link at the top of the list to download it as a .csv file.
