Tips for birding Swamp Road
Swamp Road is rural and infrequently traveled. Cautious viewing from the roadside is the only option and a scope is typically helpful, as the waterfowl can be at quite a distance in the flooded fields. It is a prime area for waterfowl after heavy rains, especially in late winter and into spring, with over a dozen species sometimes present. Rarities such a Snow Geese and Greater White-fronted Geese have also frequented the area. When not flooded, it is an area to check for birds that favor agricultural areas, such as Horned Larks, American Kestrels, and hawks.
