Tips for birding Ohio Veterans Home
The visitor’s parking area can be accessed from the Strub Road entrance/exit. You can park here and walk the campus or drive through the parking area and view the campus by car. Leaving the parking area there are several ponds and the military cemetery. Geese and waterfowl are commonly by the ponds and occasionally Great Egret or Great Blue Heron. Snow Geese have been seen here in winter months. Check the many trees for songbirds and woodpeckers and watch for flyover Bald Eagle or Turkey Vulture, to name a few. You may also spy the resident Peacocks on the campus. There are several other entrances and exits to the campus from Milan Road to the east or Dewitt Avenue to the north.

About Ohio Veterans Home
The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility. Two levels of care are offered: standard care for those veterans in need of any intermediate level of care, and special care for veterans with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. The home opened in 1888 to care for veterans of the Civil War, and has been in continuous operation since. It is located near Lake Erie, in the heart of Ohio’s family-friendly lakeshore attractions and recreational hub.
