Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area–Hoagland-Blackstub Road

Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area–Mahan-Denman Boat Launch
We adjusted the road name to “Mahan-Denman” — we had inadvertently reversed the two names.
Mosquito Lake–North End
This hotspot has been renamed and the marker has been moved out of the area of restricted access in the Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area. Boaters may not enter the area north of Mahan-Denman Road. The hotspot may be used to submit checklists of birds seen on the north end of the lake in the wildlife area or the state park.

Updates

Ottawa County

We have learned that Celotex Marsh on Plasterboard Road is no longer available as a birding location and it has been removed as an eBird hotspot. The owners of the marsh are enforcing a no trespassing policy and have asked birders not to visit the site.

Is data lost when a hotspot is removed?

You may be wondering if data is lost when we remove a hotspot from eBird. The answer is definitely, “No.” The eBird website allows a hotspot editor to revert a hotspot to a personal location. We have done this very few times in Ohio, but it is good to have this option when it is necessary. The hotspot location then becomes a personal location in the accounts of the birders who have checklists submitted there. These birders “share” the location and it is “owned” by the birder with the oldest checklists.

Republic Landfill Grasslands and Airfield
We have added “Grasslands and Airfield” to this hotspot name to help birders know that there is no entry to the landfill itself. The grasslands and airfield adjacent to the landfill provides a place to view birds in the landfill area. Please do not enter or go past the office building into the active landfill. No permission or entry is allowed past that point. In winter, gulls can be viewed with a scope from the airfield hill.
